How do you feel about public bug trackers?

I'm of mixed opinion as far as public bug databases are concerned.

On one side, they really help the community feel involved with the process of getting products they like fixed.

On the other side, there are a lot of hard feelings if you close a bug because another bug has better information, or if a bug remains open for a prolonged period of time.
